I've made an observation lately while taking a look at websites set up for 1024x768 resolutions. It seems like the standard banner ad size of 728x90 really doesn't fit anymore. Most of the sites seem to center this ad at the top of the page with a lot of empty space to the right and left.
I believe this ad size was initially created when the standard resolution size was 800px wide. Perhaps its time for the IAB (Interactive Advertising Bureau) to take a look and change the standards. I would suggest reducing the width of this ad size and encouraging publishers to left align the ad and introduce another to the right. This could be consistent with their other right column advertising. The standard right column size now would be 300px wide.
